These days wireless Wi-Fi connections are the norm, but there are still situations in which we need to connect our computers to a router with a wired Ethernet connection.

In fact, three different people asked me how they can connect a Macbook Pro that doesn’t have an RJ-45 Ethernet connector to their router with an Ethernet cable just this month.

Well, this can be certainly be done, and it’s actually quite easy to do. All you need is a Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.

These adapters couldn’t be simpler to use. Just plug the thunderbolt cable on the adapter into your Macbook Pro and then plug an Ethernet cable between the adapter’s RJ-45 connector and the router.

Once the adapter and Ethernet cables have been attached you’ll have a brand new Gigabit speed wired Ethernet connection directly to your router!

If you’re lucky you might be able to pick up one of these nifty adapters at your local electronics retailer or computer store.

If not, Amazon has plenty of them to choose from. Just be sure to pick one with lots of great user reviews and at least a 4 star rating.

Bottom line: If you happen to be in a situation where your only option is to connect your Macbook Pro to the network via a wired Ethernet connection, you can. All you need is one of these nifty Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapters.
